Our story
After years of intensive research in the field, the company KosterAlg was founded in 2016 by six experts specialized in marine botany, ecology and chemistry. With the purpose of developing and optimizing the growth and quality of seaweed in healthy Swedish waters, KosterAlg has found an efficient and sustainable process for producing Swedish-cultivated & EU-organic seaweed (or macro algae to use the correct designation in the research world!).
In its first years, KosterAlg’s EU-organic seaweed was cultivated in smaller quantities, but despite this, several Guide Michelin restaurants in Sweden, including restaurant VRÅ, Ekstedts and Sjömagasinet, inquired about this particular seaweed to use in their dishes. KosterAlg’s seaweed products received increasing attention in the restaurant sphere because of the unique combination of high nutritional values and exceptional flavor combinations.
Over the years, the general interest in seaweed has increased as more people discover the positive health benefits of Swedish seaweed in foods, such as a high density of nutritional values, a natural flavor enhancer without added substances, and a sustainably grown raw material that is positive for the environment and our society. .
With our combined expertise, KosterAlg’s goal is to meet the demands of the health conscious customer by being the leading player in Europe of sustainably grown seaweed of the highest quality.
