KosterAlg is a newly established company offering eco-certified macroalgae (mainly kelp) cultivated on the Swedish west coast. KosterAlg is owned and operated by marine biologists.

Most of our algae is grown in the open sea on the west coast of Sweden, (Skagerack), but KosterAlg also cultivates algae in tanks with deep water pumped from the clean waters of Skagerack. Our production is eco-certified for Sweden and the rest of the EU.

The species cultivated at sea are “Sugar kelp” (Saccharina latissima) and “Oarweed” (Laminaria digitata). Algae cultivated in tanks are Saccharina latissima and “Sea lettuce” (Ulva lactuca).

We offer our algae as biomass and we deliver them dried, frozen or fresh. In order to cater to our customers’ needs we arrange the delivery together.

Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance

KosterAlg AB is participating in the Baltic Blue Biotechnology Alliance, a 3-year project (2016-2019) led by Geomar Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany. It is part-funded by the Interreg BSR programme under the ERDF.

The aim of the project is to facilitate and accelerate the commercialisation of resource based products from the Baltic Sea, Kattegatt and Skagerrak in a sustainable way.
The Alliance project brings 26 partners from the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) together and is comprised of experts from research institutions, business support organisations, blue biotechnology companies and the SUBMARINER network in order to develop innovative marine bio-based products. Together with their target users, SMEs and start-ups, the Alliance aims to enable growth within the field of blue biotechnology by developing working procedures that ensure the effective but sustainable use of marine resources.
